        QuestionS

        Frequently Asked Questions

        Your Institutional Locksmith Questions, Answered.

Does New Hampshire require locksmith licensing?

According to ALOA, as of January 2025, 13 states require locksmith licensing: Alabama, California, Connecticut, Illinois, Louisiana, Maryland, Nevada, New Jersey, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas and Virginia. New Hampshire is not a state that requires locksmiths to be licensed so you should ask questions to avoid scammers. LockWorks is fully insured and a member of both ALOA and SAVTA.

What is a locksmith scam or locksmith scammer?

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetuer adipiscing elit. Aenean commodo ligula eget dolor. Aenean massa. Cum sociis natoque penatibus et magnis dis parturient montes.

Why are key control programs important for institutions?

Key control programs are crucial for institutional security and accountability. They provide a structured system for tracking and auditing keys, ensuring that every key is accounted for. This helps to mitigate the risk of unauthorized access, manage liability, and ensure compliance with security standards.

What is a vulnerability assessment for a school or institution?

A vulnerability assessment is a comprehensive review of a facility’s physical security measures to identify potential weaknesses and threats. It evaluates elements like building design, entry points, and existing security measures to provide a strategic blueprint for enhancing safety and security.

Do you work with our existing institutional key policies?

Yes, we work to align with your institution’s specific key control policies. Our services are designed to support your key control person (DKC) by providing the tools and expertise to implement, track, and audit keying systems in compliance with your established procedures.

How much does it cost to hire a locksmith?

The short answer is, it depends. On the market, the business’s overhead, profit goals, etc. While there is no standard of pricing that all locksmith businesses follow, LockWorks charges a trip charge (aka service charge) for each visit to a customer’s property. This covers the cost to run the vehicle, vehicle insurance, wear & tear, fuel etc. After which the job is either priced flat rate (for simple scenarios like lock rekeys or deadbolt installations) or priced time and materials (T&M) for more complex scenarios with unknown variables (such as installation of a Ring camera system with configuration, testing, and modifications required). In either case, upon request we will always provide a quote for services ahead of time.

What is a key control program?

A key control program is a formal system that provides guidance and procedures for controlling keys within a large organization, such as a school or university. It helps to ensure the safety and security of the community and property by managing the entire key lifecycle from issuance to return or replacement.

What happens if an institutional key is lost or stolen?

A lost or stolen institutional key should be reported immediately to the appropriate authority, such as the Department Key Control person and University Police. In many cases, the department whose employee lost the key is financially responsible for the rekeying costs, which can be significant for a large building.

How can a professional locksmith help with an institutional security assessment?

A professional locksmith provides a detailed, actionable assessment that goes beyond a general review. We can identify missing physical design features or technical measures and provide specific recommendations for improvements, such as high-security door hardware or access control systems, to address the identified vulnerabilities.

Can you provide a digital solution for our institutional key management?

Yes, we can and do consult on and install digital systems that manage access control and provide a comprehensive audit trail, which can help your organization meet compliance obligations and streamline operations.
